artsouthwa ... the online database and web site for arts and crafts practitionersIn October 2000, Pre-emptive Strike was commissioned by the Great Southern Development Commission (GSDC) and artsouthwa to design and develop a comprehensive on-line database and web site for the arts and crafts practitioners in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia.

www.artsouthwa.com.au was launched at a function held in the Vancouver Arts Centre, Albany, Western Australia on December 1, 2000. At the time of the launch, there were 162 individual artists, 18 galleries and 22 associations in the database. Many of these also have dedicated web pages on the site.

Features

  • Separate facilities for individual artists , galleries and associations
  • Content is extracted live as required from a Microsoft SQL Server database .
  • Password-protected, on-line administration facilities allow artsouthwa personnel to update the site as required.
  • Individuals, galleries and associations can be regrouped by the site user and listed by name, town or postcode.
  • Searching by name, entry type, town, postcode, artform category and whether or not a sample photo is available.
  • Home page changes each time it is displayed with a piece of art that has been randomly selected from the database. The selected work is automatically linked to the database entry and, if appropriate, the artsouthwa web page for the artist.
The site has since been updated to allow the administrators to edit the pages and keep the web site changing and updated.
